A prayer for consciousness
May
light and love survive
where
there goes darkness
where
matter's impenetrable touch dissolves
into
an unknown sea
where
songs and sighs and sweet
protest
of seagulls
falls
on no more ears
where
the scent of humble bodies blows no more
and
is blown away
where
the wind dies down
where
the shadows of the trees
falls
short
and
falls down
where
the earth's skin breaks
where
the core aches
where
the liquid round the ailing centre dries
may
light and love and words and warmth survive
Severn II (late night recital)
Severn II
There is no escaping this.
The dark eventuality of Wales
in its last regress
beacons all walking disasters
and makes them wait.
But there is sanctuary in pain.
Beneath our past
there lies a cruder prehistory
bursting the vein.
There is no escaping that.
