Box Opened

Box opened

You came like a stranger to me
All tentative and inquisitive
In your own vernacular
Our languages destined to clash
Although we speak the same language
Your name as alien as the sound
As the hacking tones
Of my Welsh ancestry
And my cutting history
You've no idea of the snakes
Rattling behind my curtain
Or the nature of the box you opened
Even just for a peek
Only to find the sound of the void
Speaking right back at you.
