On our removal

On our removal

Where did you think you were going
when the black ice broke and the millennia moved
a couple of inches closer to your last memory?
Did you think you would rescue or your blood be rescued
in chip or silicon?
Did you imagine a future with the Federation?
Did you seriously think you would pull through
with the seas on fire
with so little atmosphere
Did you think anybody would be left to make that work
or you would pull together?

There was only one place in this life we were ever going
there was only the shade of the sun's dark side
to come
only one thing growing
The dissipation of the crowd in a cloud of burning
The spectre in the dust
The shroud

the thermonuclear fleeting death of all our knowing
