Visitation
Only the bright ghost
of your delight still haunts me
so many years gone now
you would wake up the drear morning
brighten up the dawn with eyes
fresher than the daffodils
warm a freezing room up with a smile
and melt my cold heart's panic
laughing like monkeys
giggling like schoolgirls discussing sex
with the wrong guys
you would skip and I would hop
while singing for no reason
now I sing as little as I cook or paint
or fuck with the same inimitable delight
you brought to morning
only the otherworldly happy face
of your effortless light
in a world apart and devoid of any days
still haunts me as I sink into the night
Root Canal
Everything is water
even the stars
when they tremble and glisten
and the light makes ripples
broken like waves
against rocks
their wavelengths dashed into atoms
Everything is water
fluid as ashes
even the heart of the world boils alive
bubbles over with love and lava
even the stones
as they slide toward death
ride the ice
as they trickle down the valley
Everything is water
the eye is water
the blood and the sweat and the come
is all water
the peak of the mountain
the foot of the well
the cities
the clouds
your face when the news and the rain
came rumbling down
when we talked
and where the bodies were found
Everything is water
